Using Seo To Boost The Quality Of Your Website - Part 2

In the first part of this article we discussed the importance of content when it comes to delivering a high quality, well optimized website. Here, we look at some more ways you can use search engine optimization to deliver a better user experience.

When publishing articles on your website you should describe the content on the page in the first paragraph, and preferably in the first 25 words. Search engines attach a lot of importance to the opening paragraph, as does the user.

You should also carefully consider the words you use in headings and sub-headings. Your heading should communicate clearly with the reader and entice him to read on. It should also include a keyword or key phrase.

The same goes for sub-headings. These will break up the text in longer articles and allow the reader to scan for the content that they are most interested in. Again, search engines attach increased importance to these headings so choose your words wisely.

Another way to increase SEO and boost user experience is to take a look at the links within your website. All over the internet you will see websites using link text such as 'click here' or 'next'. These can be ambiguous for users and utterly useless for SEO. Try to use descriptive text that will tell both the user and the search engines what the page being linked to is about.

In the first part of this article we touched on title tags. The title is the first thing many people will see when they look at your website or a search result for your site on a search engine page. A carefully chosen title tag will also boost your search engine ranking so it is essential that you get it right.

It is recommended that you keep your title tag text to about 66 characters, although Yahoo displays 120 characters in search results. If you choose to go over the 66 character mark, try to keep the most relevant information at the start of your title tag text.

When writing your title tag you should concentrate primarily on two things. First you should include well researched keywords to boost your popularity among search engines. Second, you should write your title tag in a way that it encourages users to click through to your website.

Finally, you should include a site map on your website. A site map will help users find what they are looking for easily and quickly, and they also make it easier for search engine spiders to index the pages on your website.
